Really looking forward to a night in Birmingham to celebrate 45 years in broadcasting & 50 years of Radio One.
I first visited Birmingham in the 1950’s when you could catch a train from London Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill. Try doing that now & you’ll get some very strange looks! My Uncle Frank, my dad’s brother, lived in Acock’s Green & I remember catching the bus into the city & being taken to watch Birmingham City play Wolverhampton Wanderers with Billy Wright & Gill Merrick on parade – yes I am that old!
Since then I’ve returned to take part in a Radio One Week Out, to cover numerous cricket matches for the BBC at Edgbaston, to watch rugby at the Reddings ( Bill Beaumont’s last ever match ) & for the FA Cup semi final between Ipswich Town & Manchester City, who won & went on to face Spurs at Wembley in a two legged final starring Villa & Ardiles!
